How do I adjust my volume and make sure it's not muted?

To adjust your volume controls in Mac OS X, go to your System Preferences and find the Sound settings.

  1. Go to your Apple Menu > System Preferences.
  2. Click on the Sound icon.

  3. At the bottom of the Sound settings window, make sure your Output volume is set around 75%.

  4. Verify that the Mute checkbox is not checked.
