Why don't I hear anything when I press Play?
First, check that your computer is set up to play sound, and that the
volume is set high enough. You may need a plug-in for your browser in
order to play the MIDI data that WolframTones sends.
What kinds of computers does WolframTones work with?
It works with all standard modern Windows, Macintosh, Linux, etc.
systems, and with all standard browsers, such as Internet Explorer,
Netscape, Firefox, and Safari. It requires that JavaScript is
enabled, and that there is a MIDI plug-in installed. (Some operations also
require cookies to be enabled.)
Why does WolframTones sometimes sound very different on
different computer systems?
WolframTones normally sends everything in MIDI format, which is
converted
to sound on your computer. Sound subsystems on different computers do
this conversion differently. Some instruments may change more than
others. Quieter instruments such as woodwinds are typically the first to
degrade on low-end systems. WolframTones will sound best with good
headphones or speakers, and a high-end sound subsystem. Make sure that the
sound subsystem is correctly selected in your operating system as the
output device for MIDI.
Can I use WolframTones if I don't have web access?
No. It's a web-based system.
Can I use WolframTones without broadband?
Yes. WolframTones normally sends only small amounts of data to your browser.
